Flat Nipples
Flat nipples are often referred to as retracted or inverted nipples by plastic surgeons. These types of nipples do not "poke out" from the areola like most nipples, and appear flat and smooth, or in some cases may actually curve inward. There is no physical harm associated with flat nipples, and they cause no medical problems, though some women may feel insecure about the way their nipples look, which can lead to a decrease in self esteem and feelings of depression. For this reason, some women may choose to have cosmetic surgery to correct their flat nipples. This procedure may also be done in conjunction with both breast enlargement or reduction. Generally nipple surgery does not affect a woman's ability to breastfeed, and she should retain sensation of the nipple.
