Hypertrophic Treatment
Hypertrophic scars generally look like large raised lumps of tissue, and are also sometimes known as keloid scars. These scars are caused by an overgrowth of collagen, resulting in a thick and hard mass of tissue around the affected area. These types of scars are a severe form of acne scarring, and have been shown to be rather resistant to treatment. Hypertrophic treatment may be able to reduce the size and appearance of hypertrophic scars, though it is difficult to restore the area to what it looked like before the scar formed. Cryosurgery may be used as a form of hypertrophic treatment, and has been shown to be effective in many cases. Sometimes, however, a hypertropic scar may partially grow back after removal, making further treatments necessary. Steroid treatments are also used to treat this type of scarring, and certain types of laser treatments may also be able to reduce the appearance of hypertrophic scars.
