Implants

Implants are frequently used in a variety of different plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures. Most commonly, implants are used in breast augmentation procedures in order to increase the size of a woman's breasts or to reconstruct a breast after a mastectomy. Breast implants are round pockets filled with either liquid saline or a type of silicone gel which are inserted into the chest under general anesthesia. Implants are also commonly used in other parts of the body as well. Facial implants are common, and may be used to simulate the appearance of cheekbones or to enlarge a small sized chin. Lip implants can also be inserted into the lips in order to give a person a fuller, thicker set of lips. Pectoral and calf implants are also frequently used, as are buttock implants.
