Keloid Acne
Keloid acne scars are also commonly referred to as hypertrophic acne scars. They appear as large raised lumps of tissue that may be reddish or discolored, and are thick feeling and hard to the touch. Keloid acne scars are caused by an overproduction of collagen, which results in a hard lump of dense scar tissue. These types of acne scars are among the most difficult to treat, though keloid acne scars can be minimized through cosmetic or surgical procedures. Steroid treatments have been shown to be effective in treating keloid scars. Cryosurgery may also remove keloid scars, though in some instances the scars may partially grow back after surgery. Some laser treatments have also been shown to minimize the appearance of keloid scars, though the results are not guaranteed.
