Oral Surgeons
Oral surgeons are a practicing specialty in dentistry. They often work in a stand alone practice and are not attached to a hospital or general practice or family dentist. However, today more and more general dentists are proficient at oral surgery and perform oral surgery procedures in their office. This makes the procedure easy for their patients. The appointment can be scheduled with little to no wait time and the patient is already familiar with the dentist. The most common form of oral surgery is a tooth extraction. This can occur for a variety of reasons. Wisdom teeth that become impacted must be extracted by an oral surgeon. Teeth that have broken off and cannot be repaired must be extracted. Primary teeth that refuse to fall out even when permanent teeth begin to push through must be extracted. In addition, the use of orthodontics requires tooth extraction in almost all cases.
